PRESS STATEMENT ON NELSON MANDELA
The Muslim Youth Movement of South Africa wishes to extend its condolences to the Mandela family, friends and the entire South African nation on the passing of Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela. It is a loss that will reverberate not only in South Africa, but the world over, especially in these troubled times that wisdom in leadership is sorely needed.
Nelson Mandela lived his life to the full and the best tribute that we, as young people, can pay him is to try to continue struggling for what he lived for, a just society. As his middle name 'Rolihlahla' says, Nelson Mandela was a troublemaker in the face of an evil and brutal system of apartheid. It is in that spirit that we should also be troublemakers, as long as there is injustice, poverty and inequality.
We should be reminded that the man who has died did not put his and his family's needs above those of the country. He has left a rich legacy that should be preserved along with those of other patriots and martyrs such as Robert Sobukwe, Steve Biko, Zephania Mothopeng, Chris Hani and many others.
May Allah forgive him his shortcomings, reward him for his good deeds and comfort his family.
Rest Madiba!
