PRESS STATEMENT ON NATIONAL UNIOIN OF METALWORKERS OF SOUTH AFRICA
The Muslim Youth Movement would like to express its support for and solidarity with the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA) in its struggle against the neo-liberal policies that continue to widen the gap between the poor and the rich, entrenching inequality, increasing corruption and eroding the share of the workers and the poor in the wealth of this country.
We stand with NUMSA in their call for the scrapping of the Tax Incentive Bill (otherwise known as the Youth Wage Subsidy) and the e-Tolls that are aimed at enriching the already obscenely rich and exploitative monopoly capital. As the MYM, we call for a state that will play a leading and major role in the economy and the creation of quality employment for the youth of our country. We also call for access to free education and a tough stance on corruption which continues to rob us, young people, of a prosperous future.Informed by the Islamic values of solidarity with the poor and the workers, we have called on all our members in all our regions to join the NUMSA marches today in various cities where we have structures and members.

PRESS STATEMENT ON NELSON MANDELA
The Muslim Youth Movement of South Africa wishes to extend its condolences to the Mandela family, friends and the entire South African nation on the passing of Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela. It is a loss that will reverberate not only in South Africa, but the world over, especially in these troubled times that wisdom in leadership is sorely needed.
Nelson Mandela lived his life to the full and the best tribute that we, as young people, can pay him is to try to continue struggling for what he lived for, a just society. As his middle name 'Rolihlahla' says, Nelson Mandela was a troublemaker in the face of an evil and brutal system of apartheid. It is in that spirit that we should also be troublemakers, as long as there is injustice, poverty and inequality.
We should be reminded that the man who has died did not put his and his family's needs above those of the country. He has left a rich legacy that should be preserved along with those of other patriots and martyrs such as Robert Sobukwe, Steve Biko, Zephania Mothopeng, Chris Hani and many others.
May Allah forgive him his shortcomings, reward him for his good deeds and comfort his family.
Rest Madiba!

PRESS STATEMENT ON KENYAN ATTACK
The Muslim Youth Movement of South Africa notes with sadness the preventable and unnecessary loss of life that occurred at the Westgate Mall in Nairobi. We offer our condolences and prayers to the friends and families of those who lost their lives and we wish the injured a speedy recovery. There can be no justification for such indiscriminate killing of people.
